I have never been a huge museum girl... I am not even sure why. I can whisk through a museum in record time but being married to Dre means walking SL..O...W.....L.....Y.... because Dre LOVES to read every single thing in front of every single painting or sculpture which more times than not leaves me waiting on a park bench for him because if I were to stay at his pace I would want to kill myself. I also don't want to take away from him experience or rush him through so for those out there with families who go at different speeds I get you! Find a spot with some free wifi and use the time to clean out your email or edit photos which is what I have done and more times than not I meet a husband who is waiting on his wife or a mom whose kids were NOT going to behave in there so she found an early exit.

However, I do make exceptions. The Borghese Gallery & Museum is one of them.
I am not sure if it is because I have memories of coming here as a child with my mom or because the pieces in this collection are so truly remarkable that even me at my race like a HARE through speed, want to take the time to enjoy every moment of this incredible Gallery. From the Rape of Proserpina made in 1621-22 to Antonio Canava's PAOLINA BORGHESE BONAPARTE AS VENUS VICTORIOUS each sculpture truly looks like it is made out of fabric. To think of how old they are and how they have stood the test of time and how MASSIVE the blocks of marble had to be to carve these magnificent pieces - It is ALL mind blowing. The ceilings are beyond words - a mini Sistine Chapel in my opinion. There are always pieces on loan from other Galleries,
Buy tickets online and take your time. I remember being 8 or 10 when my mom first took me and I wish I could find a photo of my cute self in front of Paolina. She is truly my favorite. Lying on a mattress pillow that if you don't touch it LOOKS LIKE A PILLOW and not marble, she is just gorgeous. I am so drawn to her and could stand in front of her for hours.
Each piece has a story behind it and one more intriguing than the next.
If you are in Rome with limited time - please please pop in and check this collection out. You won't be disappointed.
